Position Summary:

The Suzuki lab has engaged in basic and translational studies using human pluripotent stem cells for use in treating and modeling neuromuscular and musculoskeletal diseases. The successful applicant will work on Dr. Suzuki's funded research projects for tissue engineering of skeletal muscle and tendon using human and animal stem cells. The specific goals of the project are to create induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived progenitor cells and evaluate their utility for in vitro tissue modeling and in vivo regenerative therapy in muscle and tendon injuries. The Suzuki lab collaborates closely with other basic and clinical science laboratories in bioengineering, stem cell biology, orthopedics, neuroscience and neurology. This project will provide opportunities for projects that will be led by the applicant, as well as collaborative team science work in which the applicant will contribute to collaborations with other research groups.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Ph.D. in biology or other biomedical science (preferably cell biology, skeletal muscle biology, musculoskeletal biology, bioengineering or related field).

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

1-2 years research lab experience. The right applicant will have a strong desire to learn new skills, an interest in the musculoskeletal and/or neuromuscular disease field, and flexibility to work well both in a team setting and individually. Excellent communication skills, personal responsibility and accountability are also incredibly important to effective lab work.
