Position Summary:

The Local Government Education Program Manager works with faculty, staff, and partners to develop needed Local Government Education program activities and manages the Local Government Education Extension Program. The Local Government Education Extension Program is one of several programs within Community Development Institute, which provides educational programming to assist leaders, communities, and organizations in realizing their fullest potential to enhance Wisconsin communities and to enrich the lives of their residents.

This position supports specialist, county, and tribal Educators in their programing and provides direct education designed to build the capacity of local government officials and leaders to enhance their communities.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Master's or another graduate degree in a field that relates to the responsibilities of this position, such as local government, public administration, political science, public policy, business, economics, leadership, project management, government analytics, non-profit sector management, law & public policy, or community psychology is required. JD or PhD preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

REQUIRED:
1. Five or more years of professional experience developing, implementing, evaluating, and reporting on the impact and value of educational programs.
2. Previous program or project management experience.
3. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills in a team setting.
4. Demonstrated ability to think creatively, identify root causes, systems of influence, and synthesize inter-disciplinary approaches to conceptualizing and addressing local government issues.
5. Established track record of building partnerships with diverse groups.
6. Experience managing budgets.
7. Demonstrated experience effectively interacting with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated
8. with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity.
9. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and coach others in a context of individual and cultural differences.

PREFERRED:
1. Successful experience obtaining funding through grants, contracts, gifts, and/or revenue generation.
2. Demonstrated ability to think creatively, identify root causes, systems of influence, and synthesize inter-disciplinary approaches to conceptualizing and addressing local government equity work.
3. Local government experience.

Additional Information:

Working Conditions:
1. The Program Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing an innovative strategic vision for the Local Government Education program that connects the academic units of UW-Madison, with the Division of Extension, and Local Governments throughout the State.
2. The Local Government Education Program Manager reports directly to the Community Development Institute Director
3. This position requires statewide travel, and the candidate is responsible for arranging for transportation adequate to meet position responsibilities and essential job functions.
4. Work evenings or weekends as needed to meet programming needs
