The UW Bothell has an outstanding opportunity for a Retention Specialist.

The Retention Specialist (RS) will have primary responsibility for recruitment and retention of students in the Advancing BIPOC Learning & Engagement (ABLE) Scholars program and the Bridge to Graduate Studies program. The RS will coordinate with partner schools and community contacts, refer students to existing campus and community services, and maintain coaching relationships with enrolled students. The RS will collaborate with other project personnel to develop and deliver recruitment, engagement, and professional development activities. The RS will assist with evaluation by facilitating data collection and management, program record-keeping, and documentation related to student activities.

* This position is grant-funded for 4 years; continuation of work beyond 4 years is dependent on additional funding.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruit & Retain Students in the ABLE Scholars Program

• Collaborate with project team, SNHS advising staff & faculty, and Washington Center for Nursing to develop and deliver recruitment, engagement, and professional development activities that lead to measurable outcomes for student retention & graduation
• Create & maintain resources that prepare students to apply for and complete graduate-level study in Nursing
• Partner with Tacoma campus retention specialist for program delivery, coordinating & developing student activities, and managing tri-campus communications
• Maintain database of student contacts, activities, and outcomes. Produce routine reports on student progress, obstacles, and results. Respond to the requirements of the HRSA Grant
• Through individual and group programming foster retention across duration of grant-identified pipeline culminating in approximately 200 students across CTC, BSN, and graduate programs

Administer Grant-Funded Scholarship Process

• Develop, administer, and support the Scholarship Committee, including reviewing applications, developing review rubrics, communicating decisions, and maintaining decision logs
• Increase access to summer coursework through additional scholarship support
• Build UW Financial Aid and Scholarship knowledge to be first point-of-contact for students at all degree levels; refer appropriately as needed
• Manage $850,000 Student Scholarship Budget

Develop Mentoring/Advising opportunities

• Develop and nurture peer-to-peer mentoring and support by highlighting and connecting to community multicultural nursing organizations
• Actively manage and connect students to university and community resources to facilitate retention
Other Duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Education, Health, or related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in Academic Advising, Academic Services, Admissions, or Financial Aid in a higher education setting.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Commitment to providing excellent student services in a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation.
• Ability to form productive working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members from a wide variety of backgrounds.
• Ability to communicate effectively interpersonally and in writing, with a proven ability to give public presentations as needed.
• Proficiency in standard office software.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies related to student records and information systems, admissions, and registration. Familiarity with an admissions process into a competitive major.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

• Academic support and advising, preferably in nursing, health sciences, or related field.
• Successful candidates will have a proven track-record of effective communication, experience collaborating with individuals and organizations, and recruitment.
• Candidates should demonstrate creativity and experience with program planning.
• A demonstrated ability to effectively engage with members of BIPOC communities or be from a BIPOC background.
