Position Summary

Trinity College seeks a staff that reflects the changing demographics of our student body. The College has an opportunity for a Social Media Strategist to join the Office of Communications. With a large, engaged audience across multiple platforms in a constantly evolving social media environment, the Social Media Strategist serves as the college’s strategic and creative social media expert who is responsible for planning and executing the social media strategy for Trinity College-branded social media accounts. The strategist reports to the Director of Digital Communications and works closely with marketing, editorial, video, and creative services staff members to plan, produce, and curate creative and engaging content that supports the college’s strategic goals and priorities. The strategist serves as the lead voice for the college’s flagship social accounts and digital communities and plays a key role in advancing the college’s community management and influencer/ambassador engagement efforts with alumni, parents, faculty, students, and others. This work includes consultation and coordination with social media managers across the college (in advancement, admissions, athletics, and elsewhere), as well as the further development and supervision of students as social media content providers and ambassadors.

Duties and Responsibilities


1. Plan, develop, and execute social media strategies that support the college’s goals and priorities, while consulting and coordinating with stakeholders across the college on messaging, audience and channel determination, and success metrics
2. Create, edit, and publish content (original text, images, video, and/or HTML ) that builds meaningful connections between the college and its key stakeholders, including prospective students, alumni, families, on-campus audiences, and the surrounding community
3. Identify and pursue engagement opportunities with influencers, ambassadors, and crowd-sourced content
4. Cultivate audience relationships through social media by interacting with and responding to audiences
5. In collaboration with media relations and others on across the college, provide social media communications support (monitoring, responses, message delivery, etc.) during emergency and crisis situations
6. Serve as the primary monitor and responder on the college’s flagship social media accounts
7. Analyze, review, and interpret performance analytics and translate findings into goals and actions
8. Supervise and oversee student social media content creators

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

· Degree, certificate, coursework, or relevant experience in public relations, marketing, communications, or a related field
· At least two years of experience managing branded social media channels and communities
· Fluency in each of the major social media channels, comfort with learning to use new and emerging channels, and an understanding of social media management and monitoring products
· Demonstrated writing and creative content production skills; understands and employs principles of content marketing
· Facility with social media listening, metrics, and analysis
· Experience with or understanding of crisis and emergency communications principles, particularly in a social media environment
· Ability to understand and identify future trends in social and online media and keep pace with industry information and best practices
· Ability to apply creative thinking, identify new engagement opportunities, work independently, and take initiative
· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing and handling multiple projects
· Excellent consulting, presentation, and communications skills
