The Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning in the Center for Teaching, Learning and Design ( CTLD ) is a full-time, exempt administrative position that reports to the Director of the CTLD . The Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning leads the CTLD in providing faculty development activities in the CTLD and supporting effective instructional facilitation at MSU Denver. This position works collaboratively with the Director, as well as with faculty and academic departments to promote excellence in teaching and enhanced student learning using a variety of evidence-based methods. Both in-person and remote work are part of this position.
IND208 Duties/Responsibilities
50% Teaching & Learning work at the CTLD
• Plan, coordinate and execute the CTLD’s efforts to develop effective instructional facilitation among MSU Denver faculty. This includes what has traditionally been called “faculty development.”
• Develop, deliver, and evaluate in person, online synchronous and online asynchronous training on effective student-centered teaching and learning, teaching with technology, and high-impact learning practices across all delivery modes.
• Develop, deliver, and evaluate CTLD programs for faculty around instructional facilitation. Examples include, faculty learning communities, recurring workshops and events, New Faculty Orientations, etc.
• Develop workshop materials and online resources for faculty by applying knowledge of research in teaching and learning, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), and discipline-based education research.
• Creation and facilitation of well-designed faculty development modules (or “micro-credentials”) focusing on limited-scope issues (e.g., student engagement in synchronous online courses, or effective use of Just-in-Time Teaching in hybrid courses).
• Administration and facilitation of learning opportunities for faculty cohorts to develop their teaching practices, such as the ACUE Effective Teaching Practices courses, for example.
• Contribute to and/or lead efforts to gain campus-wide and external visibility and partnerships for the Center.

20% Leadership and Administration
• Coordinates and communicates regularly with the Instructional Accessibility Group and Instructional Design Group.
• Collaborate on university-wide teaching and learning initiatives.
• Collaborate with academic department to consider and implement effective instructional practices and faculty development opportunities across the discipline.
• Represents MSU Denver at local, regional, and national conferences in related fields.
• Monitoring changes in online tools (Canvas, Teams, YuJa, etc.) and impacts on instructional facilitation and communicating these when appropriate.
• Website design and maintenance.

30% Research, Outreach and Other Duties
• Maintain teaching status, teaching up to one course each year.
• Maintains professional expertise as a leader and faculty developer by researching and sharing new professional knowledge.
• Maintains professional knowledge of the TEACH Act and the application of copyright and fair use law to higher education.
• Supports events, conferences and workshops sponsored by the Center for Teaching, Learning and Design.
• Identifies and pursues grant opportunities to fund innovative initiatives.
• Embed inclusive excellence within all practices and philosophies.
• Other duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications
1. Ph.D. or comparable terminal degree from an accredited institution.
2. Experience teaching in higher education.
3. Experience delivering some form of faculty development, including collaborating with faculty across disciplines on developing, implementing, and evaluating effective teaching methods.
4. Experience working independently, including creating and leading initiatives, and meeting deadlines and expectations.
5. Experience with professional collaboration and communication.

A. 5 years of teaching experience in higher education, including the use of a modern learning management system.
B. Involvement in faculty development at the national level; for example, through the POD Network (Professional and Organizational Development in Higher Education).
C. Experience developing digital multimedia (Camtasia, Captivate, or comparable tool).
D. Knowledge of adult learning theories, including instructional design, evidence-based pedagogies, active learning, student-centered learning, etc.
E. Applied knowledge of federal and state law related to usability and accessibility ( ADA Section 504 and 508) in education.
