The salary range for this position is $49,900 – $62,400. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.

The Budget and Procurement Manager is responsible for analyzing and monitoring all finances at the operational level for the Department of Music, including the following: monitoring transactions for compliance with State, University, and Music Department fiscal rules; developing and implementing department financial tracking systems; forecasting future spending; allocating resources; and problem-solving unexpected issues and suggesting solutions.

IND208 Duties/Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain departmental accounting and budgeting systems to supplement and enhance tracking, reconciling, and reporting of the University’s systems for the Department of Music
  • Create and maintain advanced Excel spreadsheets and pivot tables to track and report Department of Music expenditures and revenues
  • Aid the Chair and Music Department Program Manager to develop budgets for 12 academic areas in the Department, as well as for recruitment/community outreach events
  • Process a variety of accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
  • Work with Music Department Program Manager and AHEC procurement services to track partnership finances, and to purchase a variety of music-specific items including instruments and equipment for ensembles and classes
  • Select vendors based on State awards, best price, etc.; negotiate with vendors to achieve best price and delivery schedule while maintaining compliance with Department and University needs and rules
  • Track donations to the Department of Music through the MSU Denver Foundation
  • Coordinate student scholarships with Financial Aid and the MSU Denver Foundation
  • Prepare and enter Affiliate Faculty Load and Compensation information, salary supplements
  • Process visiting artist and vendor contracts
  • Support faculty with institutional travel expense reporting
  • Assist student workers and faculty with student worker hiring processes
  • Research fundraising opportunities and assist with grant writing and reporting
  • Assist with departmental maintenance and front office support
  • Provide annual Departmental financial information to our accrediting body (National Association of Schools of Music)
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Music or related field, or at least three years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, and/or music business administration
  • At least one year of experience creating and using Excel spreadsheets for record keeping
  • At least one year of experience working in higher education or in a music business administrative position
  • At least one year of experience with procurement and developing budget tracking systems

  • At least three years of experience overseeing and managing budgets
  • At least three years of experience with technical accounting, procurement, and/or financial record management
  • Knowledge of Banner financial system
  • Knowledge of Chrome River expense management system
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Experience with grant writing and fundraising
Work Hours
Generally M-F, 8-5. Position may require participation in night and/or weekend events on a limited basis.
