The University of Akron Department of Development is seeking to
fill the position of Director of Development, Annual
Giving.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Leading and executing all annual giving fundraising activities with a focus on increasing donor participation
- Working to renew and increase gift amounts, donor retention rates, as well as strengthening relationships and identifying pipeline, major gift, and planned giving prospects
- Communicating with all unassigned donors
- Will have an annual attainment of one (1) million dollars
Additional responsibilities include:
- Creating an annual calendar to guide implementation of a strategic, multichannel annual giving program using direct mail, telemarketing and electronic solicitations to reach current and potential donors
- Educating, soliciting, and stewarding annual giving constituents, developing innovative programs and strategies to acquire new donors
- Contacting and stewarding leadership annual giving donors; working with Deans, Directors, and Development officers to identify large-scale annual giving opportunities across campus and develop segmented, multichannel approaches to meet objectives
- Assisting with unique, highly segmented appeals for one-time giving opportunities
- Managing and working with outside agencies, directing all facets of an innovative telemarketing program including goal setting, providing segmented data and ongoing updates, recruiting, and managing student-callers, managing Call Center logistics and usage
- Overseeing pledges and fulfillment timelines; monitoring progress and other actions to increase support and number of donors; leading and implementing traditional annual giving programs, including monthly (anniversary) gift reminders, handwritten appreciation notes to first-time donors, Giving Tuesday activities, workplace giving opportunities, etc.
- Supporting Annual Fund auxiliary programs including matching gifts, mobile cause applications, advisory board solicitations, college-centered seminars, and conferences, etc.
- Analyzing and presenting regular trend reports on progress toward attainment goal, track donor performance and develop new strategies to maximize revenue
- Investigating and using industry best practices and supporting ongoing data management and analysis
- Entering all activity and relevant conversations/contact with donors into the database to assist major gift and planned giving efforts
- Serving as a leader in implementing University branding marks in all annual giving fundraising
- Supporting other University, Foundation, and Alumni Relations activities as needed
- Providing professional, quality customer service to donors, alumni, and friends though the annual giving channel
- Managing main giving pages and giving forms on our Webpage; ensuring department phones provide accurate and timely giving information
- Creating and expanding digital fundraising using all available digital channels in an integrated way to reach and expand audiences, spark engagement, and increase giving opportunities
- Focusing on delivering a digital fundraising strategy to reach
beyond the local community, engaging broader audience's interest in
supporting the University
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- A minimum of (4) years of progressively responsible fundraising experience in higher education, non-profit or business
- Strong communication, marketing and sales skills
- Ability to speak and write persuasively about the annual giving as well as an ability to work with internal and external constituencies
- Proven success managing Annual Giving, direct response programs, and database management
- Proven success in creating and implementing strategic Annual Giving stewardship programs
- Experience work with frontline fundraisers to generate pipeline, major gift ad planned giving prospects
- Experience with fundraising software, preferably Raiser's Edge and Raiser's Edge NXT
- Knowledge of design software, such as InDesign, and web editing
tools
