The Innovation in Child and Family Wellness Research Group ( Innovative Wellness ) of Virginia Commonwealth University ( VCU ) is pleased to announce a postdoctoral fellowship in the areas of social-emotional learning and substance abuse prevention. Innovative Wellness at VCU ( https://innovativewellness.vcu.edu/ ) guides school- and community-based efforts to promote social-emotional learning and prevent substance abuse among adolescents. The postdoctoral fellow will join a vibrant research team to examine the efficacy of a trauma- informed, social-emotional learning program to reduce adolescent substance use, called Rise Above: Building Life Skills to Overcome and Thrive ( https://www.riseabovenow.org/ ). There will be considerable opportunities for the postdoctoral scholar to participate in implementation, project coordination, recruitment, data collection and analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing.

The postdoctoral fellow will have the unique opportunity to assist in the coordination, dissemination, and evaluation of the social-emotional learning program by collaborating with school and community partners or leading/co-leading a prevention education class. The postdoctoral fellowship is for a 12-month period, with the option to renew for an additional year, contingent on performance. Required Qualifications
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in education, social work, psychology, public health, or a related discipline when they begin the fellowship. The ideal candidate for this position will have demonstrated experience conducting intervention research, collaborating with schools and community agencies, have strong initiative and communication skills, and be proficient in working with intervention data and relevant data analysis. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of working with diverse child and youth populations. Preferred Qualifications
Previous experiences in intervention research including drug prevention, social-emotional learning, trauma-informed schools, and evaluation research. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills. Preference will be given to individuals who have prior experience in teaching social-emotional learning programs or substance abuse prevention curriculum in school settings.
