Position Summary:
The Office of Career Management provides essential career and placement services to students and alumni of the Atkinson Graduate School of Management. As the leader of this office, the Director works collaboratively with faculty, staff, alumni, employers, and university partners to develop high quality programs which help students with their career development and placement. For students in the Atkinson School's full-time, Early Career and Career Change MBA, the Director is an integral part of their graduate school experience from orientation through post-graduation employment. The Director is also a co-instructor in Practical Application for Careers and Enterprises (“PACE”), the EC/CC program's signature, first-year experiential course. In addition, the Director supports students in the Atkinson School's MBA for Professionals program, a part-time, evening program based in Portland and Salem.

The Director of Career Management works with the Senior Associate Dean and Dean to develop short and long-term strategies for providing high quality career management and job placement services to students. Additionally, this position plans, manages, and oversees programs in support of those strategies. Among their regular duties are developing and maintaining excellent relationships with local employers, coaching and advising students, collecting and reporting data, and serving as a member of the school's administrative team. This position manages the Atkinson School's Career Center, and supports programming and select services for undergraduate business students. An important responsibility is to establish and maintain an optimal collaboration with the University's Career Development office.

This position requires strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Incumbent must demonstrate superior knowledge of hiring and employment practices across the for profit, non-profit, and government sectors. Travel is required to perform the essential duties of this position.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Develops short and long-term strategies for high quality programming in the areas of career management and job placement. Determines the critical skills students and alumni require to maximize their employability. Designs, leads, and oversees programs and initiatives to support these goals for EC/CC, MBA-P, and undergraduate students.
  • Manages full-time staff, faculty career advisors, graduate assistants, interns, and work-study students.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Atkinson School Career Center, including scheduled and walk-in appointments, employer visits, lunch and learn programs, and other services as needed.
  • Oversees the Office of Career Management's annual operating budget. Demonstrates superior stewardship of university resources.
  • Designs and delivers curricula in GSM 5108: PACE; evaluates student performance and establishes key performance indicators for student success and engagement.
  • Manages GSM 7251: Student Internship—a required, credited course for EC/CC students. Sets criteria for internship eligibility and approves all applications for credit-granting internships. Supervises and trains faculty career advisors in support of the summer internship program.
  • Leads the Atkinson School's employer relations efforts. Develops and communicates a strategic plan to develop and maintain existing employer partnerships. Visits current and prospective employers. Seeks general and exclusive job postings. Actively connects students and alumni to employers.
  • Collects and analyzes data from employers to demonstrate assurance of learning. Provides regular feedback around student performance, preparedness, and employability based on formal evaluations and assessments.
  • Plans and deliver career management curricula at student orientation. Develops engagement and onboarding processes for new students.
  • Advises student professional organizations; assists in the development and execution of an annual student leadership retreat, as well as ongoing trainings.
  • Works with university advancement and alumni relations to develop strong alumni and volunteer networks and to engage and cultivate alumni and volunteers.
  • Collaborates with the career management offices at the Pacific Northwest College of Art and the College of Arts and Sciences in the development and facilitation of programs and events. Maintains regular communication with these offices to ensure joint degree students receive high-quality career services.
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports employment data per the MBA Career Services and Employers Alliance (MBACSEA) guidelines
  • Coaches and advises students in the development of their individual career plans. Assists students in identifying and applying to appropriate internships and full-time positions. Facilitates networking between students/alumni and employer-partners.
  • Collaborates with admissions and recruitment, Career Development, faculty, and other administrators to create positive career learning outcomes for students.
  • Serves on Atkinson School and University committees as needed.
  • Researches and stays current on employment trends and other career/employment related matters.
  • Other duties as assigned


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • An MBA or similar Master's degree from an AACSB or ACBSP accredited institution is required.
  • Five years of experience in career management, talent management, corporate recruiting, or related experience is required.
  • Demonstrated performance in:
  • Human relations and interpersonal communications;
  • Self-initiative and creativity;
  • Functioning with a high degree of autonomy;
  • Time management and project management skills;
  • Strong interpersonal, speaking, written, and listening, skills;
  • Working with multicultural and traditionally underrepresented populations;
  • Using good judgment and maintaining confidentiality;
  • Advising or coaching individuals;
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as experience with CRM databases;
  • Maintaining budgets; and
  • Documenting processes and procedures.
  • Must possess a current driver's license valid in the state of Oregon or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire and a driving record insurable by the University's insurer;
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends and travel when needed. The Atkinson School has campuses in both Portland and Salem, Oregon, and the successful candidate will maintain a regular presence at both locations;
  • General understanding of employment trends, opportunities, and organizations relevant to MBA students;
  • Ability to execute those physical activities required to perform the essential functions, including driving to off-campus destinations; and
  • Successful clearance of a criminal conviction record check.


Typical Work Schedule

Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Typical work performed indoors in a normal office environment.
