The Simmons University Department of Chemistry & Physics invites applications for a 8-month contract (non-tenure track) faculty position for Fall 2021 & Spring 2022 (10/15/21 to 6/15/22). We are looking for an energetic and independent colleague with a passion for teaching who can thrive in the environment of a small urban liberal arts college. Job Summary:

This Boston-based 8-month contract (non-tenure) faculty position will report to the Department Chair. The role involves teaching lectures and/or labs in General, Organic & Biological Chemistry (GOB) and Biochemistry. Candidates with a Masters or PhD in Biochemistry and experience in teaching both GOB lecture and lab courses and biochemistry are strongly preferred. Candidates invested in the scholarship of teaching and learning focused on continuous improvement of laboratory experiences such as development of course based undergraduate research experiences (CURE, as described by the Council for Undergraduate Research) will be given priority. Teaching Responsibilities include teaching seven lectures and/or labs for the 2021-2022 Academic Year, which may include:
  • General, Organic & Biological Chemistry Lecture and Labs (CHEM-110)
  • Principles of Biochemistry (CHEM-223)


This faculty position will also include service-related responsibilities, such as:
  • Working with laboratory manager and student prep workers to ensure smooth setup of labs.
  • Training/supervising adjuncts for large courses.
  • Assisting in the troubleshooting or maintenance of instruments related to the laboratory courses in which you teach; assisting as a liaison with vendor field engineers.


Qualifications/Skills:
  • Masters or PhD in Biochemistry or related discipline.
  • Experience in teaching both GOB lecture and lab courses and biochemistry.
