Associate or Assistant Professor of Biology (Microbiology)

 

We invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Biological Sciences at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology, Cellular & Molecular Biology or related discipline. Applicants with a medical degree and research experience in microbiology or infectious disease may also be considered. Preference will be given to excellent communicators with experience in developing student-focused educational materials, a track record of original research and publication as well as experience leading research projects with undergraduate students. Candidates should be able to demonstrate their willingness to work effectively with diverse populations and their desire to promote collegial and collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff and students.

Responsibilities:

The faculty member will teach microbiology lectures and laboratory sections to undergraduate students in biology and pre-nursing programs. Additional courses to be taught may include: virology, immunology, parasitology or new elective courses based on the candidate’s field of expertise. Responsibilities also include advising and mentoring students, developing and assessing curriculum and serving on school or department committees. Faculty members are expected to remain current in their field by conducting research and being active in their professional organizations.

Assistant or Associate Professor of Biology (Environmental Science and/or Organismal Biology)

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Ecology, Zoology or related discipline. Preference will be given to excellent communicators with experience in developing student-focused educational materials, a track record of original research and publication as well as experience leading research projects with undergraduate students. Candidates should be able to demonstrate their willingness to work effectively with diverse populations and their desire to promote collegial and collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff and students.

The faculty member will teach various lecture and laboratory courses in Environmental Science, Ecology and Organismal Biology to undergraduate students in biology and environmental science programs. Courses may include: environmental health, environmental ethics, ecology, conservation biology, and various courses in organismal biology (botany, vertebrate and invertebrate biology, etc.) based on the candidate’s areas of expertise. Responsibilities also include advising and mentoring students, developing and assessing curriculum and serving on school or department committees.
