The Department of English Language and Literature at the
University of Michigan seeks applicants for an open Associate
Director of the English Department Writing Program (Lecturer III)
position beginning September 1, 2022. This is a non-tenure track
position appointed for three years initially with the potential for
renewal. Full-time load (100% effort) is three (3) courses per
semester or the equivalent in other duties. Duties include teaching
basic and advanced writing courses (English 125 – College Writing,
English 225 – Academic Argumentation, and English 325 – Art of the
Essay) as well as courses in areas of expertise. In addition, this
position will also serve as Associate Director of the English
Department Writing Program. The Associate Director's duties include
working with the Director of EDWP in the daily management of the
writing program, collaborating on curriculum planning,
co-facilitating the August orientation, serving on program
decision-making committees, coordinating mentoring, facilitating
mentoring groups, and serving as the primary administrator in the
Director’s absence. With the assigned Associate Director duties,
this position will be excluded from the Lecturers’ Employee
Organization (LEO) bargaining unit at the University of Michigan.

DEPARTMENT QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in
Writing Studies, Rhetoric, and Composition, English Language and
Literature, or a closely related field. The candidate must have
demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching of writing in the
United States. Preference will be given to candidates with
expertise in composition and rhetoric and experience in program
administration. Offers for this appointment are contingent on
