Job Description:

APPOINTMENT: January 1, 2022

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Co-teach two field work classes on the Macomb campus
  • Individual will use required syllabus and curriculum;
  • Individual will identify teachers within Illinois to serve as cooperating teachers for candidates in these classes and obtain permission from the building administrator/principal

Serve as a clinical (student teaching) field supervisor for West Central Illinois
  • Individual will observe/supervise/evaluate student teachers during the 16-week experience (beginning and ending experience dates vary)
  • Individual will secure student teaching placement sites in identified public school districts within West Central Illinois
  • Individual will collect contracts and other paperwork from the cooperating teachers and building administrators
  • Individual will build/maintain collaborative partnerships with PK-12 schools

Coordinate other field work experiences as needed

Field supervisor will be required to maintain an office full time on the Macomb campus. Travel around West Central Illinois will be required. Additionally, the person must be available beyond the work day to assist with student teacher/cooperating teacher issues related to the student teaching experience.

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in educational leadership or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 4 years of teaching experience in public schools is required.
  • An approved Illinois State Police background/FBI fingerprint check will be required. Knowledge and/or experience with word processing and spreadsheet software as well as strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Illinois public school teaching experience is preferred
  • Four years administrative experience in public schools (Type 75 ISBE Supervision Certification or principal endorsement) is preferred

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be "in hand" at the time of application.

THE OFFICE OF TEACHER EDUCATION: The successful candidate will join the Office of Teacher Education at Western Illinois University. The WIU Office of Teacher Education, housed in Horrabin Hall, serves students in the 28 undergraduate and graduate educator licensure programs offered at the University. The Gwendolyn Brooks and Casa Latina cultural centers offer programs and activities focusing on Black and Hispanic cultures, while the Women's Center promotes gender equity through education, support and advocacy. WIU's student organization for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning and ally (LGBTQ*A) community provides resources, support and programming. The University's athletics program, based on the Macomb campus, sponsors 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's varsity sports. Football competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision through the Missouri Valley Football Conference; all other varsity sports compete at the Division I level through The Summit League.
