East Carolina University | Dean, College of Fine Arts and Communication

East Carolina University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication who will serve as the chief executive officer for the College.

East Carolina University (ECU) enjoys a proud heritage and record of contribution since its founding in 1907. ECU is the fourth largest university in the University of North Carolina (UNC) system, which consists of the state’s sixteen degree-granting public institutions.

The College of Fine Arts and Communication is comprised of four different schools: Art and Design, Communication, Music, and Theatre and Dance. In the fall of 2020, there were over 2,200 students in the sixteen programs within the College. The College of Fine Arts and Communication is a vital influence in the local community and the state of North Carolina. In addition, the College is a leader in developing global partnerships for study abroad and faculty-student exchanges.

East Carolina University seeks an innovative and persuasive leader who will articulate a vision that integrates with the current direction of the University and inspires the College to advance in teaching, research, and service in a diverse and collegial environment. Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Dean is responsible for strategic, collaborative leadership promoting the importance of a liberal arts education throughout the University. The dean works with faculty and staff representing the College’s departments, programs, and centers, to oversee the strategic planning and budget development, and to provide oversight for the resource allocation, teaching, research, outreach, and administration.
