Elon University’s School of Communications seeks applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position with expertise in media innovation in the Department of Communication Design, to start in Fall 2022.

Minimum qualifications include having a PhD or other terminal degree in communications or in a related discipline (or having one by the start of summer 2022) and subject matter expertise in visual design, data analytics (e.g., web and social media analytics, network analysis, natural language processing, machine learning, etc.), and/or interactive media. Professional experience that highlights media innovation is a strong plus, as well as having a combination of teaching and professional industry experience.

We welcome and encourage applications from members of under-represented groups. We also welcome those who would bring dimensions of diversity, equity and inclusion to the University's teaching and research mission. We believe that DEI is an essential foundation for excellence.

The appointee is expected to teach undergraduate courses in communication design or media analytics or master’s level graduate courses in interactive media. The appointee may also teach courses in our School’s communications core curriculum and, potentially, courses in Elon’s interdisciplinary general education Core Curriculum program. The appointee must also engage in active research, contribute to the life of the university through service, advise and mentor students, and help advance DEI strategic efforts at the department, school and university levels.

Applicants must submit a cover letter, a current CV, a DEI statement, and a list of at least three references. Candidates may also submit links to their digital portfolio showcasing their professional and scholarly work. The deadline to submit applications is October 22, 2021. The search will continue until the position is filled.
