A Content Developer is a mid-level exempt professional position that is a problem solver, with strong communication, consulting, coaching, project management, user experience, and instructional design and development skills. A Content Developer consults with faculty, designers and developers, digital media, and SMEs leading them to implement a learning vision, with a clearly defined roadmap, bringing together the user experience through the application of appropriate learning strategies, authoring tools, learning platforms, and learning content into a form that is easy to use, scalable and delivers a great learner experience. The Content Developer manages content design and development projects and project teams, overseeing contractors, developing courses, collaborating with internal and external Subject Matter Experts (SME) to create content and ensure quality, collaborating with other departments such as digital media, library, etc., and assists the Director with creating policies and procedures for programs that are compliant with local, state and federal requirements and regulations. Responsibilities may also include assessing the need for new programs based on demand and research efforts.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assist director with planning, designing, developing, and administering continuing education programs.
  • Work with various constituents across the College, as well as industry contacts, to develop continuing education opportunities and offerings aligned with various disciplines and needs.
  • Ensure that appropriate quality curriculum is developed and implemented.
  • Develop program/course descriptions that accurately reflect content, goals and objectives of the course and develops course offering programs relevant to the College and industry needs.
  • Manage projects and supervises contractors in meeting all service-level metrics.
  • Assist with recruiting, orienting SMEs, instructional designers, contractors, and instructors.
  • Assess and/or develops project plans to coordinate the various projects
  • Monitor performance of project teams against work plans, as assigned.
  • Coach and mentor contractors and other personnel to enhance performance and ensure achievement of project, department, and College goals and mission.
  • Employs appropriate learning experience design and development techniques, tools, and strategies along with design standards and considerations.
  • Visualizes instructional graphics, the user interface, interactions and the finished product.
  • Writes effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts and video scripts.
  • Collaborates effectively with Subject Matter Experts and team members.
  • Understands the capabilities of eLearning development tools and software.
  • Understands related fields-usability and experience design, information design, communications and new technologies.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Telecommuting office environment (100% of work week)

Preferred Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years of successful experience in a complex college or corporate environment preferred with prior e-learning design and development experience required.
  • Strong instructional design, development, and product creation skills required.
  • Experience with Brightspace platform, Adobe authoring tools, Articulate authoring tools, EdApp authoring tools is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience designing and developing applications for deployment on a mobile device preferred.
  • Experience designing and developing microlearning and/or e-learning is required.
  • Knowledge of 508, FERPA, and other relevant compliance standards is a plus, but not required.
  • Should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills with superior interpersonal and organizational skills to work effectively in a dynamic, cross cultural environment.
  • Experience resolving conflict(s).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite including MS Excel, and product design and development software.

 

Preferred Education:

  • Masters degree required
  • Knowledge of the latest instructional and technological developments in higher education preferred
  • Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills with superior interpersonal and organizational skills to work effectively in a dynamic, cross cultural environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
