POSITION TITLE: Mammalian Physiology

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

Biological Sciences faculty are active research and pedagogical scholars who emphasize innovative teaching and student success. Faculty work closely with students in small classes, instructional laboratories, advising sessions, and have opportunities for mentoring in their area of expertise. Faculty also nurture strong relationships with community partners, providing bridges for students to engage in internships, service-learning, and off-campus research experiences. The Department has recently moved into a new state-of-the-art science building with molecular biology and imaging resources and a mammalian cell culture facility; the Department is home to an extensive vertebrate teaching collection, but does not have a vertebrate vivarium. Additionally, the College has a growing consortium of faculty pursuing student success and science education research including the Center for Math and Science Success that empowers students to achieve their personal and professional goals through equity-based programs that cultivate life-long learning skills, leadership development, and a sense of belonging. POSITION DETAILS:

This is a full-time tenure-track position in the area of Mammalian Physiology at the Assistant Professor rank beginning in the Fall 2022 semester. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and professional experience.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Teaching lower division, upper division, and graduate level courses in area of expertise. Additional assignments may include the teaching of general education classes and capstone courses, depending on the needs of the Department.

  • Developing a scholarly research program.

  • Providing service to the Department and University.

  • Providing service and/or outreach as part of the University's commitment to community engagement in Sacramento.

  • Academic and career advising and mentorship for diverse students with a variety of experiences and perspectives.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Physiology, or a related discipline. If ABD, candidates must complete the doctoral degree by August 1, 2022.

  • Prior college teaching experience and a demonstrated commitment to inclusive teaching excellence.

  • Ability to develop a research program that engages diverse and underrepresented undergraduate and/or Master's degree students and that can be adapted to a comprehensive state university where teaching is the primary focus.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Coursework and/or experience teaching human physiology at the college level.

  • Experience teaching a diverse student body using innovative, inclusive teaching strategies that foster success for all students.

  • Experience with and/or potential to provide academic and career advising for Biological Sciences students with a variety of different backgrounds and experiences.

  • Experience engaging and mentoring underrepresented students in the field of Biological Sciences.

  • Demonstrated commitment to providing service to the institution and community.

    5. Statement of Teaching Philosophy: Please submit a 2 - 3-page statement describing your philosophy of teaching and learning. In your statement, please include the following: a brief summary of your relevant teaching experience, goals for student learning and related assessment strategies, and how you create a classroom environment that is engaging and inclusive of all students.

    6. Statement of Research Interests: Please submit a 2 - 3-page statement on your proposed program of scholarship at CSU Sacramento. Your statement should address your plans to develop and sustain your program of scholarship, how you will adapt your scholarship to a comprehensive teaching institution, and how you plan to involve undergraduate and graduate students in your program.

    7. Name, telephone number, and email address for three professional references who can comment on the candidate's professional preparation and experience.
