Position Summary:

The Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (WVDL) and the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) are working in collaboration to recruit a team of individuals that will be performing SARS-CoV-2 screening for the UW-Madison campus. These positions will function as a team of microbiologists performing SARS-CoV-2 screening on human samples in a high-throughput, clinical testing environment. Duties of the positions include, but are not limited to, specimen processing, reagent preparation, nucleic acid extraction, performing PCR assays, data analysis, releasing results, troubleshooting, instrument maintenance, inventory, workspace and equipment cleaning and decontamination, specimen storage and disposal.
As workload permits, these positions will have opportunity for cross-training and participation in the veterinary diagnostic testing one or more of the testing sections including: Molecular Diagnostics, Virology, Bacteriology, Serology or Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSE). When the dedicated COVID testing laboratory is no longer needed, this position may be reassigned to one or more of the diagnostic sections at the WVDL.

Core work hours are 7:45am to 4:30pm with ability to flex start/end times up to 1 hour (for an 8- hour day), Monday through Friday. This is a renewable position.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution is required. Bachelor's degree in a biological or medical life sciences discipline preferred. Ability to meet CLIA 42 CFR 493.1489 Standard; Testing personnel qualifications is required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

College laboratory course work in bacteriology, microbiology, virology, and/or immunology is required. Experience performing PCR is preferred. Prior experience in a diagnostic or clinical laboratory is preferred. Prior experience in a high-throughput environment is preferred.

Additional Information:

Some after hours or Saturday hours may be required.

The employee must be able to successfully pass a medical evaluation for respirator use and a

Salary will be assigned within the appropriate range, commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is also included.
