Salary and Terms:   Probationary, full time position. Salary placement is based on evaluation of experience. MSUAASF Range D.

Position Description: The Associate Director of Athletics for External Affairs is responsible for day-to-day responsibilities for the organization, implementation and direction of the Athletic Departments External Affairs with primary responsibilities to lead and direct the athletic department’s overall staff, corporate partnerships, marketing, public relations, advertising, communications, licensing, branding, promotions, major gifts, endowment program and alumni relationships. These duties must align with the mission of the University and philosophy of the Advancement Team. The leadership the Associate Director of Athletics provides directly impacts the financial stability of the University, SMSU Foundation, Advancement Office and the Department of Athletics.

Minimum Qualifications:                            

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in sports marketing sponsorship, financial planning, development/fundraising, or athletic administration leadership.
  • Demonstrated commitment or proven strategies for fostering a diverse and inclusive environment; demonstrated ability or proven strategies to teach and work with persons from diverse backgrounds.
  • The ability to work strategically, develop and implement constituency programs and activities, along with a talent for motivating volunteers.
  • Strong written and presentation skills with proven success in soliciting funds from various constituencies.
  • Ability to work independently, but collaboratively, in goal-oriented team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience with Raisers’ Edge preferred and skilled use of Microsoft Office software, including Excel, as well as presentation, and website applications expected.
  • Ability to adjust to new situations and change.
  • Experience in successfully securing corporate sponsorships and fulfillment.

Please Note:  Requires a valid driver’s license. Extensive travel, weekend and evening work required.
