Job Description:

The School of Engineering at Fairfield University invites applications for the position of Professor and Chair of Computer Science and Engineering. Candidates at the rank of Full or Associate Professor are eligible to apply.

Position Description : Reporting to the Dean of the School, the Chair is expected to provide strategic vision and leadership to the Department, manage the department’s operations, and engage in teaching, research, and service. The chair provides the leadership to achieve the highest academic level in all academic and research programs in the department; promotes a team environment for the advancement of departmental and institutional goals; works with the Dean on student recruitment and retention; executes budgetary and personnel decisions; and has oversight for external affairs, including fundraising, community outreach, and alumni and industry relations.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is experiencing rapid growth, having tripled its enrollment during the last four years, and is positioned to become the largest unit within the school. The department offers an on-campus Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Computer Science, and graduate programs in Software Engineering, Data Science, and Cybersecurity. The strategic areas for the department include Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Cybersecurity, Data Science, and Bioinformatics. The Department is currently undergoing ABET accreditation by the Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) in fall 2021.

The School of Engineering at Fairfield University traces its legacy and rich history to the Bridgeport Engineering Institute (BEI), dating back to its founding in 1924 and through its merging with Fairfield University in 1994. The School of Engineering is organized into the departments of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering, and offers ABET-accredited undergraduate programs in addition to graduate programs in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Management of Technology, Data Science, Software Engineering, and Cybersecurity. Located in one of the busiest technology corridors in the country, the School of Engineering boasts outstanding industry partnerships and student placement.

Required Qualifications :
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • A demonstrated track record of excellence in teaching, research, and service.
Preferred Qualifications :
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel management, including recruitment, advancement, and retainment of faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability in working for diversity, equity and inclusion, and team-building.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with industry and other external stakeholders.
  • Experience with ABET or other academic accreditation processes.
