Job Description:
The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Fairfield University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in the area of Physical Chemistry beginning September 1, 2023. Applicants with research interests within any area of experimental physical chemistry, including biophysical, materials, nanoscience, polymers, physical bioanalytical, etc., are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching of Physical Chemistry I and II, General Chemistry I and II and associated laboratories. Additional teaching opportunities include courses for non-science majors, courses within the University’s Honors program, and courses within the signature elements of the College’s Magis Core curriculum. The teaching load is three undergraduate courses each semester, with research and university service also required for promotion and tenure.

Requirements:
Applicants are expected to have completed a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry or an allied field with a solid background in physical chemistry. Applicants must have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and the potential for developing an active research program in their area of specialization that involves undergraduates. Previous teaching and postdoctoral experience is preferred. Additionally, a commitment to pedagogical innovation and demonstrated excellence in using technology in the classroom is required.

Additional Information:
The Department consists of nine full-time faculty representing a range of specialties and is housed in a spacious, well-equipped facility in the Bannow Science Center. The Department has high quality NSF-funded instrumentation including a 400 MHz NMR spectrometer and a MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer. Our Department offers ACS-accredited B.S. degrees in Chemistry and in Biochemistry. The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry has a vibrant culture of undergraduate student-faculty collaboration in research, including departmental events and guest lecturers, and a large student interest in the health sciences.
