Position Summary
General Responsibilities:

We seek faculty members who are equity practitioners and are focused on students succeeding. We are looking for educators who are creative and responsible in their use of time and resources, who are life-long learners, who possess a passion for creating a culturally responsive and equitable learning environment, who maintain strong community connections, and who can translate that passion into practice.

The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

The Department’s primary focus is on the critical examination of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, and intersecting modes of inequality, particularly as manifest in the experiences of historically marginalized populations. In the pursuit of social justice, it challenges dominant views of racial and ethnic groups that lead to inequalities and focuses on the roles and experiences of historically marginalized racial and ethnic populations.

Position Salary Information:
Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (The initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8.)

Assignment Responsibilities
Duties include teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; participating in professional development activities including a New Faculty Academy, Individual Course Data workshops, and equity workshops with a focus on closing equity gaps targeting Native American, African American, Latina/o/x, Asian American and Pacific Islander, LGBTQIA, and other historically underserved and underrepresented student populations.

Responsibilities for this position include teaching lower division general and specialized Ethnic Studies courses in a variety of formats, which may include traditional in-person, distance, and other hybrid formats on the main campus, at our satellite spaces, and online. The faculty member will use individual and institutional student outcome data, disaggregated by race and ethnicity and other categories, and student ready and equitable practices for:

● Developing, assessing, and revising curricula and course materials
● Creating and participating in equitable program review processes
● Developing Student Learning Outcomes assessment that is relevant and responsive to our historically underrepresented and underserved student populations, particularly our disproportionately impacted populations
● Maintaining accessible and scheduled student and office hours
● Participating in department/division meetings
● Pursuing professional growth activities, including professional development that enhances one’s Equity Reflection on the Peer Review process, the New Faculty Academy and orientation, and opportunities that strengthen equity and culturally responsiveness skills
● Service on community based, district, and/or college committees
● Collaborating with other departments and community partners to improve student success.

The instructional assignment may include day, evening, online, hybrid, weekend, and/or off-campus classes.

1. Have a Master’s degree in the Ethnic Studies field; OR a Master’s in American Studies/Ethnicity, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Central American Studies, Latin American Studies, Cross Cultural Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, Asian-American Studies, or African-American Studies; OR, hold a California Community College Instructor’s Credential in the discipline area; OR, the equivalent*. All degrees must be from an accredited institution, completed by January 13, 2022.

2. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.

Physical Demands Salary $48,329 to $80,125 annually. Additional earnings may be available for summer, overload, and stipends. LRCCD Salary Schedules Additional Salary Information Entering annual salary within a given range varies, depending upon units/degrees completed at accredited colleges/universities and experience. Candidates not holding a master's degree may start at a salary lower than posted above.
