Summary of Job Duties:The Director of Administrative Communications coordinates, directs and manages communications for the Division of Finance and Administration. The director is responsible for developing and implementing communications strategies, and managing, evaluating and enhancing the division’s efforts to communicate key messages to a wide variety of audiences, including employees and the larger campus community. The director supervises the division’s existing communications teams including Facilities Management, Parking and Transit and Internet Technology Services (ITS) while providing communications leadership and support for the division’s other areas including finance, human resources and UAPD.

The position is a part of the university’s larger communications team reporting to University Relations while serving the Division of Finance and Administration. The Director of Administrative Communications reports directly to the Executive Director for Strategic Communications in University Relations and will work closely with the Vice-Chancellor for Finance and Administration and other division leaders to advance division communications goals and priorities, while working to align those efforts with the university’s larger communications goals.

The director oversees the division’s many communications efforts but also takes a lead role in developing key messaging including but not limited to Arkansas News stories, news releases, website content, social media, videos, email updates, drafting statements and answers to media inquiries.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job function of this job, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English or related field

  • Exceptionally strong writing, communicative and interpersonal skills

  • At least five years of professional experience in journalism, public relations, writing and editing, creative writing, marketing and/or related fields

  • Experience in developing strategic plans and communications plans

  • Supervisory experience



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education or higher education administration

  • Master’s degree in journalism, communications, English or related field

  • Proven ability to take complex topics and explain them in understandable terms

  • Experience working in a collaborative environment
