The Psychology Department at Ohio Wesleyan University seeks to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in developmental psychology with a secondary emphasis in diversity, broadly defined (e.g., race, gender, sexual orientation, age, or social class). The successful candidate will teach six courses per year including introduction to psychology, lifespan development, child and/or adolescent psychology, and a course developed by the candidate focusing on topics related to diversity.  The candidate will be encouraged to develop additional courses in areas related to diversity and development.     

Research area is open, but expertise in development and diversity is preferred.  The candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with students supervising individualized experiences, such as mentored research, internships, independent studies.

The candidate will be joining a department that is committed to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion and should value advising and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds (e.g., first-generation students, students from low income families, students of color, LGBT students, students with disabilities). We are especially excited about the opportunity for candidates to collaborate with academic programs that have a specific focus on studying diversity, such as our programs in Africana, Gender, and Identity Studies and Social Justice.

This job is part of a cluster of positions with which Ohio Wesleyan seeks to further diversify its curriculum and faculty.  This faculty cohort will join an educational community that values equity and interdisciplinarity and fosters close working relationships with students through our signature program in experiential learning, the OWU Connection. Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in psychology is required for this position, although ABD candidates will be considered if degree is expected by August 2022;
  • Candidates are expected to be excellent teachers (teaching experience preferred), maintain a productive research program, and contribute actively to the continued growth of the department and the university;
  • Expertise in development and diversity is preferred
