The Exercise Science program, located within the Department of Biology at Simmons University, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Exercise Physiology to begin in January 2022.

We seek an innovative educator and scholar with demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, creative curriculum development, an active research agenda, and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration inside and outside the University. As a University committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, we seek candidates with a demonstrated ability to work with students, staff and faculty across a broad range of social and personal identities, abilities and perspectives. The primary area of expertise is open, but should complement existing departmental strengths in the Biology Department.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach Anatomy and Physiology I and II and Exercise Physiology courses as well as upper level electives, along with a willingness to teach interdisciplinary courses in the Honors and General Education (PLAN) programs. In addition, the candidate will develop and maintain an active research program in Exercise Science that involves undergraduate student participation in BSL2 research labs. Responsibilities also include advising and mentoring students, participation in curriculum development, and service on departmental, college, and university committees.

Applicants should have a PhD in Exercise Physiology or related field, or a PhD expected to be completed by the time of the appointment. Expertise in physiologic response to exercise, physical activity epidemiology, public health or translational research is welcomed as is post-doctoral experience. Additional qualifications include evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, and the ability to establish an active research program with undergraduates. The Exercise Science program prepares students for entry into Simmons' Physical Therapy program, as well as for careers in exercise science, occupational therapy, and other health professions.
