Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Recruitment, the Assistant Director is a member of the Student Recruitment and Outreach Leadership Team within the Office of Admissions and oversees the Campus Experience area including campus visits, recruitment, and yield programs, the University Ambassador Program, the call center, and the Welcome Center. This position will contribute to the overall recruitment and enrollment efforts of the Office of Admissions by assisting in the development, implementation, and assessment of policies, programs, and financial objectives within the Campus Experience are; ensuring high-level customer service between prospective students, University departments, and other stakeholders; and assisting with the human resource management within the Campus Experience Team.

WORK SCHEDULE:           Full Time

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for the recruitment, training/development, supervision, support, evaluation, and retention of 2 full-time, professional staff members (Events Manager and the Welcome Center/Call Center m=Manager) and 45 part-time student staff (University Ambassadors).
  2. In collaboration with the other members of the Campus Experience team, manage all aspects of recruitment, and yield programs including but not limited to: facility selection, program development, marketing, registration, catering, venue set-up, and travel arrangements. Also, ensures appropriate staffing levels at the Welcome Center front desk, campus tours, call center, and recruitment/yield events.
  3. Utilize best practices to assist in the development and implementation of the Campus Experience area’s strategies and tactics, which are in alignment with the other office efforts, to achieve the strategic goals of the Office of Admissions and the University. Effectively assess and report the impact and success of strategies and tactics though data analysis and survey tools and use data to recommend and implement improvements and changes to existing efforts.
  4. Participates in office recruitment activities and special events including some overnight travel.
  5. Assists the Senior Associate Director in the development and management of the Campus Experience area budget congruent with the Office of Admissions visits and programming strategies/goals. Manage assigned budget and be able to justify expenditures with appropriate documentation, as well as research, identify, and propose cost savings measures.
  6. Model and utilize best practices of inclusion, equity and diversity exemplified in many ways, including staff hiring and development, setting priorities, and daily/long-term interactions with colleagues at the University and beyond. The Assistant Director should be an exemplar of the University’s values and goals in this key role.
  7. Ensure area’s functions continue during staff turnover.
  8. Serve as a backup for daily campus visit presentations.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:                           

Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Four years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of the department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.

A Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

PREFERENCES:                                

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited university/college with preference given to degrees in higher education, student affairs, or related areas.

Four or more years full-time experience working in a higher education environment particularly in new student recruitment and/or admissions.

Understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities for programming to prospective university students and other key influencers in the college decision-making process.

Experience with overseeing a campus visit program and managing student ambassadors/campus tour guides.

Demonstrated experience with: supervising staff; managing budgets; developing, executing, and assessing programs and events.

Possess exceptional organizational and time management skills.

Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills as well as demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with culturally and ethnically diverse populations.

Capable of working independently and as part of a team.

Previous experience managing a Welcome/Visitors Center.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and find solutions to issues that may arise.

Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Possess a valid driver’s license at time of employment.
