Position Summary:
Analyzes, processes, and responds to requests submitted to the University pursuant to the Kentucky Open Records Act. Evaluates, in conjunction with attorneys in the Office of University Counsel, whether any record or part thereof is exempt and, where appropriate, redacts such record(s). Assists attorneys in the Office of University Counsel in researching legal precedent, investigating facts, and preparing legal documents, which may be done to support a legal proceeding, formulate a defense, or initiate legal action. Oversees the contract review process for the Office of University Counsel and assists supervising attorneys in reviewing, drafting, terminating, and tracking contracts on behalf of the University. Assures compliance with laws, rules and regulations related to all assigned areas. Provides high level operational support to and is tasked with specialized administrative duties within the Office of University Counsel, including guiding and directing programmatic and budgetary matters as well as preparing official correspondence and scheduling meetings. May assist with preparing and disseminating on-campus legal trainings. Performs related duties as business necessitates.

Minimum Education:
-Bachelor’s degree required. -Paralegal studies degree/certification preferred.
-Current appointment as a notary public preferred.

Minimum Experience:
-Three years of related work experience is required.
-Experience as a paralegal or in a legal office or setting strongly preferred.

Manages the Open Records Act for the University, handles subpoenas for documentation, and supports litigation work.
Oversees the contract review process and may perform initial review on University contracts for legal form and sufficiency.
Coordinates University responses to federal, state, and local administrative processes.
Assists with research and analysis of statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; and, prepares legal memos as well as filings and other documents.
Ensures the efficient operations of the Office of University Counsel by providing excellent customer service to all constituents.; assisting with budget tracking for internal and external legal contracts and issues; and completing all other duties and spe
