Biostatistician

The Department of General Internal Medicine is seeking aBiostatistician who will work on an Ancillary Study to the LookAHEAD trial in people with type 2 diabetes. The Ancillary Study is focused on measuring sex hormones in female and male study participants and analyzing the association between the hormones and cardiometabolic outcomes in people with diabetes.

The Biostatician will: perform statistical analyses to accomplish grant aims and for posters, presentations, publications and future grant submissions; provide statistical consultation for MPIs, co-investigators and other staff; oversee data management activities; work with laboratory on data cleaning; coordinate and participate in study related meetings.

The Biostatistician will have experience in performing and documenting analyses on large, complex datasets, preferably using Stata and R software.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, manage, prepare datasets for analysis, including calculation of variables and cleaning of laboratory data.
  • Prepare reports to verify data quality.
  • Manage data dictionaries and sub-sets of data for specific analyses.
  • Execute and document and maintain records (code books, logs) for statistical analyses on large, complex datasets, preferably using Stata and R software.
  • Make suggestions or provide solutions to problems related to data management and statistical analysis.
  • Interpret analyses and draft statistical sections of study reports, scientific abstracts and manuscripts.
  • Produce tables and graphs in publication-quality form, and present results to research team at regularly occurring meetings.
  • Provide training, assistance, and guidance to students, post-doctoral fellows and research staff on data analysis, analysis techniques, the use of the statistical software and “best practices” for working with a large, complex database.
  • Collaborate with and provide analysis support to investigators, faculty, and students related to this project; serve as point person for analyses and data related activities.
  • Coordinate data analysis activities involving the interaction with clinicians, statisticians, and other staff (e.g., assist with agenda preparation and planning for regular data meetings).
  • Attend weekly study status meetings and additional meetings as required for planning and review of work product.
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned.

Decision Making:

  • Makes decisions and establishes work priorities.
  • Candidate is responsible for carrying out duties and responsibilities under the supervision of the MPIs.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Master Degree in Biostatistics or Epidemiology or related Quantitative field, and at least one year of related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability on completed graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous research study experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis platform such as R, Stata is required, and additional statistical software programming is desirable.
  • Experience using MS Outlook and MS Word.

Physical Requirements:

    Communication skills using English language.
