The Department of General Internal Medicine is seeking a Research Data Assistant who will support participant recruitment, retention and data collection in the DASH4D trial and other research studies at the JH ProHealth Center. The person in this position will work with the Sturdy Study Coordinator to prepare documentation for data collection and to organize participant visits at screening, baseline and follow-up study visits. This person will perform blood draws and processing and other data collection tasks according to specified protocols.
Johns Hopkins ProHealth is an off-site, community-based facility that conducts prevention-oriented research, such as clinical trials, with a goal of preventing cardiovascular disease, diabetes and kidney disease. ProHealth is a joint program of the GIM Division and the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research. In addition to Sturdy, other sutdies at PRoHealth include Digo, TRIM, Look Ahead and CRIC.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Participant Data Collection
- Interact with study participants in a friendly and professional manner
- Conduct participant consent procedures
- Conduct participant interviews based on study protocols
- Administer data collection tools, including questionnaires
- Assess blood pressure, height, weight, waist circumference
- Perform blood draws and blood processing following study lab protocols
- Administer telephone assessments
- Schedule data collection visits and make confirmation calls to participants
- Implement follow-up protocol for hard to reach participants
- Ensure security and confidentiality of data
- Document data collection according to protocol
Related Project Tasks
- Participate in staff meetings
- Assist study coordinator as necessary with filing, faxing, mass mailings, chart review, and literature searches
- Will be cross-trained for other project tasks and support as necessary
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
- High School Diploma and some college classes’ preferred but appropriate experience may substitute for college credits.
- Must have initiative, excellent verbal communication skills, good organizational skills, a friendly manner and team work ethic.
- Experience with interviewing, phlebotomy, and physical measurements such as blood pressure measurement required.
- Proficiency in MS Word/Excel required.
- Health related experience and experience in a research setting required.
- Availability during morning hours required for conducting assessment protocols and performing fasting blood draws.
- Availability on some Saturdays also required for participant visits at Pro-Health.

Schedule:
- Monday thru Thursday 8am-5:30pm and Friday 8-12:00pm. Occasional Saturday hours.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
