The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs serves as a primary assistant to the President, as the executive member of academic administration, and as the university's internal and external academic leader.
Essential Functions:
- Serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet and Chief Academic Officer.
- Serves in the absence of the President.
- Serves as a staff advisor to the Board of Governors.
- Provides optimal operational and strategic performance in the areas of academics, curriculum, program development, and other areas as assigned by the President ensuring the achievement of the University’s mission and vision.
- Provides oversight for accreditation by the Higher Learner Commission, the accrediting agency of the University, to ensure total compliance in all academic and administrative units campus wide.
- Position will hire, support, evaluate, and promote faculty, coordinators, managers, program directors, chairpersons, deans, and staff necessary in solidifying the growth and educational attainment of students during their entire matriculation at West Liberty University.
- Provides leadership in building the retention, graduation, and placement rates of the University.
- Promotes the responsible management of the University’s resources while stimulating and building upon those resources in ways that expand the image and viability of the University through budgeting and planning.
- Responsible for academic program management and curriculum development, faculty promotion and enhancement, and strategic preparation.
- Ensures student development that leads to scholastic excellence through teaching, research, and service.
- Supports the skillful improvement and learning of its valuable educators and personnel who are committed to cultivating an educational atmosphere that supports student learning and development.
- Fosters collaboration within and between departments, divisions, and the administration that lead to student success in a healthy learning environment.
- Supervises the work of the Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs, Deans, Directors, and other personnel reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of academic programs, policies, and procedures, and recommends changes as appropriate.
- Provides oversight for the planning and implementation of University-wide academic events.
- Ensures the development of a lively intellectual environment on campus – one that invites engagement with the international world of higher education and contemporary issues.
- Provides support and direction in faculty development through professional initiatives.
- Provides support and insight for Faculty Senate.
- Performs any additional duties that may be requested by the President of the University.

Education:
- An earned Ph.D. or Terminal Degree from an accredited institution is required.
Work Experience and Preferred:
- Seven + years of effective teaching on the post-secondary level.
- Five + years of professional higher education administrative experience.
- Five + years of supervisory experience on a senior academic administrative level.
- Strong written and oral communication proficiency.
- Demonstrated leadership in education.
- Exceptional management competency.
- Knowledge and experience in securing external funding.
- Team, consensus, and relationship-building experience.
- Customer service and student-centered approach to management.
- Experienced with the principles of accreditation of the Higher Learning Commission or related accrediting body.
