Central Connecticut State University invites applications for either a full-time, Senior Equity and Inclusion Investigations Officer/Title IX Coordinator (SIO) or Equity and Inclusion Investigations Officer (IO) in the Office for Equity and Inclusion (OEI).  The Office for Equity and Inclusion will hire for either position from the same search pool dependent on the qualifications, experience, and skills of the applicants. 

 

The successful candidate will perform a variety of duties relating to investigating discrimination and Title IX complaints, supporting hiring processes and the University’s affirmative action plan, as well support programmatic diversity initiatives. In addition, the SIO/IO will have the opportunity to develop, lead and facilitate training opportunities related to diversity, sexual harassment prevention and Title IX issues. Some evening and weekend hours will be required. 

Senior Equity and Inclusion Investigations Officer / Title IX Coordinator Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Six-years of full-time professional work experience in a higher education or discrimination complaint compliance setting supporting Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Affirmative Action and/or Title IX programs, with additional knowledge of FERPA and other confidentiality laws
  • Demonstrated experience supervising professional or para-professional staff members.
  • Demonstrated ability to support hiring processes by conducting search committee charge meetings and/or monitoring search processes through the university’s approval process documents and/or forms.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and or chair search committees or other University committees and/or task forces.
  • Experience supporting institutional compliance with development and editing of complex reports including the ability to use database management, spreadsheet, and statistical software.
  • Experience in participating in diversity related initiatives, programs, and activities developed by University and / or Affirmative Action Department.
  • Demonstrated ability in coordinating and/or participating in programs, events and activities sponsored by Affirmative Action Department.
  • Experience developing, coordinating, and facilitating training programs that help to foster a positive campus climate.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with a record of meeting deadlines and managing multiple tasks with exceptional follow-through skills.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or Juris Doctor degree

 

Equity and Inclusion Investigations Officer Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Five-years of full-time professional work experience in a higher education or discrimination complaint compliance setting supporting Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Affirmative Action and/or Title IX programs, with some knowledge of FERPA and other confidentiality laws
  • Ability to support university activities by serving on search committees, University committees and/or other important task forces.
  • Experience contributing to the completion of an Affirmative Action Plan by compiling data and/or participating in the editing and review process.
  • Experience in participating in diversity related initiatives, programs, and activities developed by University and / or Affirmative Action Department.
  • Experience developing, coordinating, and facilitating training programs that help to foster a positive campus climate.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with a record of meeting deadlines and managing multiple tasks with exceptional follow-through skills
  • Proven commitment to serving a diverse campus community

The Community: Located nine miles southwest of Hartford, New Britain is a city of approximately 72,000. Part of the Greater Hartford area of 1.2 million residents, New Britain is centrally located in the state and is within easy reach of much of Connecticut and several metropolitan areas. Nicknamed “the Hardware City” for its rich industrial heritage, it is home to Stanley Black & Decker. Important cultural institutions include the New Britain Museum of American Art and Walnut Hill Park, designed by Fredrick Law Olmstead. New Britain’s population is characterized by a high degree of racial and ethnic diversity. Currently, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates 70% of the population as White, 13% as Black or African American, 3% as Asian, and 0.2% as American Indian or Alaska Native. Currently 4.6% of New Britain’s population identify themselves in more than one racial category and 43% of New Britain’s population identify themselves as Hispanic or Latino. Fifty percent (50%) speak a language other than English in the home and 19% were born internationally. Significant portions of its population come from Puerto Rican and Poland or consider themselves to be from the African-American, Italian, or Irish ethnic backgrounds. In addition to all that greater Hartford provides, New Britain is 40 minutes from Springfield, Mass., two hours from Boston, and two hours from New York City. It is also part of the Hartford-Springfield “Knowledge Corridor” and, therefore, within easy driving distance of a host of private and public institutions of higher education and many cultural opportunities.

The salary for these positions is commensurate with education, experience.  The salary for the Senior Equity & Inclusion Investigations Officer/Title IX Coordinator will not exceed the minimum $99,000. The salary range for the Equity and Inclusion Investigations Officer will not exceed the budgeted salary of $75,000.
