Assistant Professor of Theatre: Scenic Design/Technical Direction. The Division of Theatre and Dance in the School of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Central Missouri seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor with demonstrated strengths in Scenic Design and Technical Direction beginning August 2022. Responsibilities include teaching two courses in the scenic area, serving as scenic designer, technical director and production manager, and supervising daily scene shop hours each semester. The candidate will be tasked with scenic designing and/or technical direction for 2-3 main stage productions per semester, mentoring student designers, contributing to the advancement and growth of the Design/Technology program, assisting in student recruitment, advising in the selection of the production season, and academically mentoring students. Additional duties include working in collaboration with theatre and dance faculty, and service on department, college and university committees.

UCM Theatre and Dance has approximately 75 majors between its BA, BFA, and BSE degree programs along with the available minors in Dance and Theatre. We are a NAST accredited program with strong regional, national, and international presence through the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.

The Division of Theatre and Dance facilities possess state-of-the art technology. In Summer 2021, the 440-seat James L Highlander Theater’s Lighting System was renovated with updated technology. Additionally, much of the sound equipment was upgraded. Education & Formal Training Master's degree (Specify field(s) of study below) Other Education & Formal Training

Two years of teaching experience is preferred.

Ideal candidates will be innovators in the theater field with a focus on cutting-edge artistry, will have a strong skill set in current digital design techniques, and advanced knowledge in multiple applications and current software environments.

Candidates must demonstrate and sustain a strong scholarly research focus and professional creative projects along with the development of a regional and national reputation in order to achieve tenure.
