Brief Description of Duties

The Post-Licensure faculty position (tenure-track) is responsible for developing, teaching and evaluating courses in the online UDC RN to BSN program. The successful candidate reports directly to the Health, Nutrition and Nursing (HNN) department chair and will work closely and cooperatively with the Program Director for the RN to the BSN program, Dean, Associate Dean, nursing faculty and college staff in administering the program. The incumbent is responsible for course management using the Blackboard Learning Management System and will work closely with nursing faculty in implementing course content (e.g., use of classroom technology to assess student’s mastery of the content). Faculty must be able to work in a fast-paced course environment with student admissions every six (6) weeks. The incumbent must be familiar with the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) nursing accrediting agency, and other professional nursing standards of practice. The incumbent will become familiar with the regulations, policies and procedures as established by the University and the District of Columbia Government.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, teach, and evaluate assigned courses in the RN-BSN Program
  • Serve as the faculty of record for assigned courses, advise, and mentor students
  • Demonstrate evidence of teaching excellence and submit course mapping to the program
  • Integrate inter-professional and other emerging competencies into teaching and learning
  • Evaluate student achievement in meeting course and clinical competencies and integration of theory related to nursing knowledge and practice in compliance with ACEN standards
  • Work with faculty to assess and develop instructional needs of students
  • Investigate new technologies to enhance the learning environment for students
  • Coordinate on campus and off-site clinical learning laboratory activities
  • Communicate with practicum instructors on the required skills and competencies required of students in a changing health care environment
  • Collaborate with faculty in program curriculum development, student recruitment, student remediation, and continuous program assessment and improvement.
  • Experience assessing learning outcomes in courses and programs is essential
  • Submit attendance verification, mid-term and final grades and student learning outcomes assessments according to BSN and University policies and timelines
  • Participate in program, departmental, and university service and program activities, such as: Open House, Advisory Board meetings, student recruitment, and orientations
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Must possess or be eligible for licensure with an active and unencumbered license to practice professional nursing (RN) in the District of Columbia
  • Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN) Degree, required, terminal degree (DNP, EdD, PhD), preferred
  • Candidates must have strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to interact effectively with students of diverse backgrounds, ages and abilities
  • Certification or ability to become in online teaching, nurse education, and clinical specialization
A candidate for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor shall be required to meet the following

qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate or the highest appropriate credential in the field of specialization, or experience and achievements comparable to the doctorate;
  • A record of scholarship and professional growth; and
  • At least five (5) years of full-time teaching experience in an institution of higher education, including three (3) years as an Assistant Professor.


  • Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience is limited or absent.

    Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by National Education Association (NEA) and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

    Visa Sponsorship: At this time, the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H-1B ). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

    Residency Preference: A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

    Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

    Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation. The determination of a 'satisfactory background investigation' is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia. The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
