The Opportunity: 

The Department of Economics and Business at the Colorado School of Mines (Mines) invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in Business Analytics. The primary focus of this position will be to help develop and support the quantitative business programs on campus. Business analytics and associated courses are taught in several programs at Mines, including the Engineering and Technology Management (ETM) MS degree program, the Data Science MS degree program, the Business Engineering and Management Science BS degree program, and the online Business Analytics certificate program. The ETM degree program, housed in the department of Economics and Business, is one of the largest non-thesis MS programs on campus with between 50 and 60 students per year. Graduates of this program place great value on combining their technical undergraduate training with quantitative business skills and enjoy enhanced management opportunities in engineering and technology focused firms.

Colorado School of Mines is a public institution dedicated to education and research in science and engineering. Located in beautiful Golden, Colorado, Mines is home to approximately 5,200 undergraduate and 1,500 graduate students. Responsibilities: 

  • Establish and/or maintain a high-quality research program and publication record.
  • Develop and deliver course materials to undergraduate and graduate students demonstrating teaching excellence of high-quality and impact.
  • Supervise graduate research and thesis projects and mentor a diverse set of students.
  • Contribute both institutionally and professionally through active service.
  • Collaborate across campus representing the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Ph.D. in Business/Data Analytics, Operations Management, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related data-analytics discipline from an accredited program by the time the appointment begins.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and curriculum development at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Assistant Professor candidates must possess academic, research lab and/or industry experience and accomplishments in a related field.
  • Associate and Full Professor candidates should have similar credentials as Assistant Professor candidates as well as national distinction and a substantial record in research, teaching and/or service. In addition, Full Professor candidates should have an established international reputation and evidence of interdisciplinary research. In addition, evidence of externally funded research will be important for appointments with tenure.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Successful record of teaching and research obtained via academic research, college-level teaching and/or industry or national lab experience.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion and accessibility.
  • Demonstrated success in securing externally funded grants and contracts.
  • Demonstrated record of research publications in archival journals and conference proceedings.

Mines is offering an academic year salary of: 

Assistant Professor: $129,445-$139-601;
Associate Professor: $136,443-$148,731;
Professor: $170,955-$202,207
