TheEconomics and Political Science Departmentcontributes to a wide array of majors, including Economics, Financial Economics, International Business and Economics, International Studies, Political Science, Public Policy, Women and International Development, and a Non-Profit Studies minor. This department is leading the “Welcoming the Dear Neighbor (WTDN)” project which is committed to learning and investigating the hidden histories of racialized housing discrimination and segregation in Ramsey County. We are embedding this community engaged project into classes as well as meeting with numerous community organizations, libraries, St. Paul district councils, faith groups, and Ramsey County departments who have expressed interest in using the racial covenant data and research in forwarding their housing equity work. TheProgram Coordinatorposition will meet this growing need for curricular and co-curricular programing as well as community presentations, engagement, and neighborhood specific research and data collection.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate an interdisciplinary team of faculty and staff working onWTDN.
  • Support the connection between discipline specific work and the local community, sharing information that can benefit the broader campus and community, including historical research, wealth gap data, and social determinants of health statistics.
  • Link students with community requests for support in capacity building.
  • Nurture partnerships with community groups to create awareness of the project and encourage involvement.
  • Lead external communications and data sharing for this project’s duration.
  • Organize and co-lead education and action sessions for St. Catherine University student groups and community groups.
  • Train community group volunteers and St. Catherine University students on how to interpret deed transcriptions to further theWTDNproject in Ramsey and surrounding counties.
  • Serve as a bridge between St. Kate’s and community groups, as well asMapping Prejudice.
  • Collaborate with Mapping Prejudice, another local project with similar goals, co-planning, designing and implementing shared programmatic components, ensuring successful qualitative and quantitative data gathering, and facilitating orientation and ongoing professional development for those involved in data efforts.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Six months of experience working directly with community stakeholders
  • Six months of experience coordinating online and/or in-person events
  • Experience working with statistical software for data analysis either via coursework or direct work experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, Social Sciences, History or related field
  • Familiarity with Ramsey County housing issues
  • Grant writing experience
