Library Assistant I - Part Time



Schedule Information : Maintains a flexible 18 hours work per week schedule. Will work at least two evenings per week.

Hours Per Week : 18 hours per week; 46 weeks per year

Working Conditions : Work is primarily indoor and sedentary in nature. Work may involve lifting books and materials up to 25 lbs. of force on an occasional basis, pushing loaded book or media carts, and moving about in the work area.

Duties of Position: Responsible for providing public service within the Circulation Department.

Responsible for opening and closing the library.

Assists students and employees with locating, requesting, and processing materials from other institutions.

Helps implement procedures and support services for the Semester Loan Technology Program.

Provides virtual library support through live chat and ticket queues.

Creates, schedules, and maintains virtual study rooms for students.

Assists with updating library website and creating content for social media.

Registers students, staff, and community borrowers and updates borrowing status of patrons.

Checks materials and technology in and out.

Collects fines and fees for lost, damaged, and overdue materials.

Receives, processes, and helps maintain reserve materials for faculty.

Provides information to patrons in person, online, and by telephone, and makes necessary referrals; assists patrons as needed.

Assists with library programming and events.

Maintains stacks and general physical space of the library.

Inspects damaged materials and refers them to appropriate department for repair or replacement.

Troubleshoots copiers, printers, DVD players, microform reader/printers, computers, print stations and book-scanning stations.

Monitors and manages group study room use.

Assists with library marketing initiatives, including helping to create displays.

Assists in directing the day-to-day activities of student aides.

Processes materials borrowed and lent through ISHARE consortium, notifying patrons that requested item(s) have arrived and returning items to the lending libraries.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements: LTA Certificate or Associate’s degree required.

Experience Requirements : One year library circulation experience preferred and customer service experience required. Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Power Point required.
