Summary of Job Duties:This position is a research support professional. This position coordinates with the SWREC resident director and research project leaders, staff, and students to provide field plot planning, preparation, crop production, data collection, and harvest of horticultural crops at the Center. Maintain facilities including three tunnel houses, chemicals and storage, maintenance of farm equipment and implement research protocols as outlined by research faculty in charge. In addition, work with other units at SWREC as needed.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture or related area.

The successful applicant will be able to obtain a Certified Pesticide Applicators License issued from a relevant state agency within 90 days of employment

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in a research environment, which may include but is not limited to, weed, disease, and pest control, fruit or vegetable breeding programs, fruit or vegetable harvest, postharvest storage evaluations, analytical and compositional analyses of horticultural products, or other agronomic products.
At least 1 year of related experience, training, or experience in pruning operations and production of fruit and berry crops.
Non-Commercial Restricted Use Pesticide License from the Arkansas Plant Board- working knowledge of pesticide application.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Must have knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Must be physically able to conduct routine farm work including the maintenance or construction of needed equipment, facilities, and plots.

The successful applicant must have a valid driver's license, be able to lift 50 lbs, and be able to walk long distances in field conditions.

Applicant must be able to work outside in all types of conditions across all seasons.

Must be able to communicate effectively and clearly (email and verbally).

Must be able to follow research protocols.

Occasional travel to the Fruit Research Station, Vegetable Station, or other research locations is required.
