Position Summary and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Custodial Services, the Custodial Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of custodial employees to ensure the cleanliness of all campus facilities, as well as building entrances and walkways. The Custodial Supervisor provides effective leadership to cultivate and promote a positive service environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Planning and scheduling of assignments, including snow removal, and cleaning services. Developing, coordinating, and implementing cleaning schedules and standards.
  • Inspect buildings and assigned areas for compliance with cleaning standards.
  • Investigating complaints of unsatisfactory cleaning performance and taking corrective action.
  • Training employees on proper methods and use of materials and equipment for safe and efficient work performance.
  • Assist Manager of Custodial Services in hiring and interview process as needed.
  • Ordering equipment and supplies.
  • Ensuring proper distribution, control and maintenance of equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Ensuring custodial staff carry out tasks safely in accordance with OSHA standards, and in a professional manner with minimal disruption to campus programming, activities and operations.
  • Advises supervisor on areas with particular need for repairs and/or additional inspections.
  • Review and approval of timesheets and time off requests.
  • Provide continuity of supervision and leadership by assuming the duties and responsibilities of other Custodial Supervisors as required. This includes covering other shifts due to a supervisor's absence or due to needs of the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or the equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of five years of custodial experience, of which three (3) years must be in a supervisory capacity. Previous experience in a union environment is preferred.
  • Strong supervisory and management skills. Strong oral and written communication skills and the abilities to train new employees are required.
  • Must be able to move throughout assigned areas. Ability to move, position, transport and place objects up to and including 75 pounds is required.
  • Ability to operate manual and electrically powered cleaning equipment and machines.
  • Ability to work, ascend and descend on ladders and use a Genie lift is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, including understanding, speaking, reading and writing is required.
  • Requires the ability to interact effectively with a diverse community of students, parents, faculty, and staff.
