NYU Shanghai is currently inviting applications for a position at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor of Performing Arts specializing in applied piano performance. We seek candidates who have completed a master or doctoral degree (MM or DMA) in piano performance or pedagogy. 

The ideal candidate should have an exceptional training background in piano performance and highly decorated public performance appearances as a concert pianist, as well as extensive experience in teaching applied piano performance courses to individuals and in group settings.  The candidate should also possess an in-depth knowledge of Western and/or Chinese music history and theory, and candidates with prior experience in musicology-related research and teaching are highly desirable.   Preference will be given to candidates who have had prior experience in organizing and producing recitals, seminars and fund-raising events. 

The faculty member will teach applied group piano courses of various levels and introductory music theory and history courses.  In addition, the faculty member will assist area / discipline heads in organizing performance events, performing and collaborating with music students, faculty and guest artists, and participating in curriculum development projects.

Minimum Qualifications

    Master or doctoral degree in piano performance/accompaniment or pedagogy Demonstrated experience in stage performance of piano solo or concerto works. Demonstrated experience in group piano teaching and studio-style individual coaching. Demonstrated experience in organizing and delivering joint recitals, concerts, masterclasses, seminars. Demonstrate experience and knowledge in music theory and history. Two or more years of college-level teaching experience as the Instructor of piano performance. Fluency in both spoken and written English.

Preferred Qualifications

    Demonstrated expertise of teaching group piano performance courses. Demonstrated expertise of teaching foundational music history or theory courses.
