At this level of the series, employees plan, coordinate, assign, and/or supervise sheet metal workers and other assigned personnel in the maintenance, fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of sheet metal products and equipment. They work under the direction of a designated administrator.
Examples of Duties
supervises, coordinates, and assigns the activities of sheet metal workers in the maintenance, fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of sheet metal products and equipment;
determine project requirements, such as staff requirements, assembly sequences, required methods or materials, and estimates material requirements and order or requisition materials or supplies;
confers with managerial or technical personnel, other departments, or contractors to resolve problems or coordinate activities;
maintains records of work in progress and work completed; inspects progress of projects to ensure that work is developing according to agreed-upon schedules and/or institutional standards and conforms with any/all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and or occupational standards;
participates in the management of personnel matters and activities such as selection and termination of employees, planning and conducting training programs, evaluating work performance, and approving time and leave requests;
issues requisitions work orders and prepare cost estimates as requested while developing and maintaining reports regarding purchases, deliveries, maintenance, and expenditures;
performs duties of the lower level;
performs other related duties as assigned.

Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, candidates must be a current Illinois resident.

About Civil Service Examination/Testing: The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of application materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, your application will move forward for examination/testing in which you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. This score will be emailed to the email address noted on your application. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
