PURPOSE
This position is created to help the faculty and the school to work on solid/fluid dynamics and geomechanics modeling and numerical simulations.
DESCRIPTION
Functional Area 1: Research
Percent Effort: 82.5%
- Perform theoretical derivations and analysis of the
mathematical models, including math models in fluid dynamics,
geomechanics and heat transfer equations.
- Implement mathematical algorithm in codes and work on
submitting papers
- Analyze theoretical and numerical results, summarizing findings
in reports.
- Write and submit papers for publishing in peer-reviewed
journals and conference proceedings.
Functional Area 2: Teaching
Percent Effort:12.5%
- Perform teaching duties assigned by the Chair of the
department
Functional Area 3: Other
Percent Effort: 5%
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics or related
field
- Two (2) years' experience on Mathematical modeling and
computational programming
- Experiences with mathematical models arising from solid/fluid
dynamics/geomechanics, and numerical methods for partial
differential equations, especially finite difference methods and
finite element methods, both theory and applications.
- A successful candidate will work in the topics of interests,
which include: (1) Fractional diffusion equations modeling and
applications (2) dynamic fracture propagation (2) quasi-static
fracture growth in nonlinear solids; (3) other mathematical
modeling in porous media flows and computations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in Mathematics and documented research record in the area
of applied and computational mathematics and proficient in
programming languages like C++ or Python or Matlab.
- Ability to work with faculty members, undergraduate and
graduate students.
NOTE: This is a two-year position.
SALARY: Up to 50,000/ annually, approximately
- $4,166.67/monthly
