Job Summary:

The instructor is responsible to the Division Dean and Dental Assisting Department Chair in carrying out their assigned instructional tasks. The instructor furthers the learning environment by providing excellence in instruction, helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering clinical skills, participating in department affairs, generally advising students, contributing to curriculum development, and assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the Dental Assisting Department Chair.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or active and successful enrollment in a Bachelor’s Program.
  • Educational preparation as a Certified Dental Assistant.
  • DANB certification as a Dental Assistant ( CDA ).
  • Oregon Radiological Proficiency Certificate; and Oregon Expanded Functions ( EFDA ) as currently defined by the Oregon Board of Dentistry.
  • Infection Control Certificate (or the ability to certify within 90 days of hire)
  • Health Care Provider Level CPR Certification (or the ability to certify within 90 days)
  • Red Cross First Aid Card (or the ability to certify within 90 days)
  • Pit & Fissure Sealant and Temporary Soft Reline Certificates (or the ability to certify within 90 days of hire)
  • Three years chair side experience as a dental assistant and/or supervision in a dental office/clinic setting.
Preferred Qualifications:

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Requires the ability to work with staff and students.

Work is performed in an office or classroom setting with minimal exposure to safety or health hazards.

Essential Duties:
  1. Promote excellence in instruction through innovative instructional methods in the Dental Assisting Program.
  2. Identify and meet the needs for student learning. Promote student learning and skills attainment.
  3. Work within the philosophy and mission of the College as an educator.
  4. Develop and refine courses to include curriculum consistent with techniques used in the community. Revise and upgrade competency skills bases modules as technology changes.
  5. Develop course curriculum, deliver teaching to students, assess student learning. Grade papers on time, turn in grades on time.
  6. Advise dental assisting students and facilitate their learning.
  7. Perform assigned teaching, advising and recruiting roles, to include promoting the program and retention of students.
  8. Participate as assigned on departmental and college committees and councils.
  9. Actively and regularly engage in communication, collaboration and assemblies with the Dental Assisting Advisory Committee.
  10. Work on a planned program of professional development to attain current knowledge and practices related to dental assisting.
  11. Actively and regularly work with Dental Assistant Department Chair and other team members to maintain a unified student learning environment.

Salary and Compensation Information:
Courses are paid on a per-credit basis. New Part-time Faculty begin at Step 1 of the payscale, with steps being “rolled” once per term.
Additionally, please note:
  • As a condition of employment, all new employees are required to be compensated via direct deposit.
  • Offers of employment are contingent on the applicant having Oregon residency at the time work commences, as well as the successful completion of a background check if required for the position.
