General Summary
Engage@ EMU cultivates and creates community and university
initiatives, programs and partnerships mostly aligned with academic
programs. Engage services all University colleges, academic
departments and programs and serves as a liaison to several
community organizations and local municipalities.
The University receives federal work-study funds to support student
employment. 7% of such funds are required to support community
engagement employment. This position will assist in the overall
management of the work-study community engagement students by
working with community organizations, promoting student employment,
providing any necessary training to work-study students,
identifying on-campus partners and assisting overall in creating a
community based work-study vision. Additionally, it will manage and
develop a comprehensive database on EMU community partners to be
utilized University-wide.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as the main point of communication for the Community Work-Study Program, responding to partners, students, and EMU staff/faculty on behalf of the program as needed.
- Identifying community partners, organizations interested in a work-study employee and managing relations and communications.
- Managing of Community Partner Database.
- Development and uploading of job descriptions, and management of positions through the University platforms.
- Development of evaluation tool for community participants and work-study students.
- Collaboration with the University Financial Aid Office and Careers Services in program implementation.
- Ensuring University is compliant with federal regulations by preparing and/or assisting Financial Aid in reporting/documentation, etc.
- Develop a promotional plan/strategy to promote positions to students.
- Designing (if needed) and/or identifying specific outreach programs in areas of literacy and/or math for work-study employment.
- Supporting and Coordinating the volunteer component of the Eagle Engage Corps Debt Forgiveness Program.
- Supporting with additional community based projects functioning out of the engage office (e.g. Collaborative YMCA Childcare Center) as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- This position is only available to those graduate students eligible for Work Study.
- Background in Social Work, Management, Community Education, Arts Administration and/or Non-Profit organization or administration.
- Interest and experience in working in community based organizations (social service, art, government, etc.) and/or college-based service learning.
- Independent, motivated, self-starter looking for a high-level of responsibility and value within an organization.
- Strong writing/editing/communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graphic Design Skills or familiarity with design softwares (e.g. adobe or canva).
- Familiarity and/or experience with grant writing and reporting including grant budgets a plus.
