Position Purpose
Under the direction of teaching staff, assists in meeting the developmental needs of children at Dartmouth College Child Care Center. Participates in implementing the program and supervising children’s activities.

High School plus 1-2 year(s) of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old
- Must have experience working with children
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check
- Must have the physical capability to move quickly to supervise children, lift, carry and physically assist children, sit on the floor and child-sized furniture, see and hear at a distance and close range.
- 3-6 credits in Early Childhood Education from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in relation to pre-school children and their parents.
- Warm, friendly demeanor.
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible work schedule.
- Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.

- Assists in the creation and maintenance of an attractive and well-organized classroom.
- Assists with transition from home to school.
- Maintains awareness of the whereabouts of each child.

- Provides guidance and re-direction when required; uses techniques of positive guidance.
- Enables children to resolve their own conflicts.
- Models and teaches developmentally appropriate behaviors and skills.
- Supports an environment where children can feel safe and secure throughout the day.
- Responds to observed needs for attention, reassurance, etc.
- Assists children in managing their feelings positively.
- Verifies individuals other than parents/guardians are authorized to escort children.
- Ensures that children are signed in and out.

Health and Safety
- Ensures the safety and well-being of children at all times.
- Implements the health policies of the Center, including good hygiene including hand washing, toileting and diapering procedures.
- Reports accidents and injuries to parents, Lead Teacher and Director, and administers first aid as needed.
- Ensures children are dressed appropriately for health and safety.
- Dispenses and stores medications in accordance with Center policies.

Family Relationships
- Maintains confidentiality of information about children and families.
- May report on how the day has gone to parents when picking-up children.
- Relays information of interest from other staff; informs parents of up-coming activities.

Center-wide Responsibility
- Provides assistance to other classrooms as necessary.
- Collaborates with classrooms on activities and events.
- Assists in maintaining shared spaces.
- Participates in the maintenance and upkeep of equipment, supplies and materials and informs Lead Teacher or office of needs.
- Participates in standing and ad-hoc center committees.
- Pursues on-going professional development.
- Works with other staff on center development and on resolution of Center-wide issues.

- Helps supervise temporary staff and volunteers.
- Participates in regular team meetings.
- Coordinates meal and snack preparation, ensuring children have adequate nutritious food.
