The Departments of Environmental Studies & Sciences and Geography at Bucknell University invite applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position to begin August, 2025. This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal for a second year depending on departmental need and contingent on successful performance during the first year.

We seek a social scientist or humanist with expertise in the study of environment, politics, and health. We encourage applications from candidates who study these topics, and their intersections, from any issue area (i.e. food; resource extraction; pollution exposure; transportation; etc) and from any region of the world.

The successful candidate will show evidence of specialization in some of the following fields: environmental politics and policy; environmental justice; environmental health; environmental geography; sustainability; environmental studies; or a related field. They will also have the ability to direct students to think spatially and across disciplines about the environment, politics, and health. Ph.D. or ABD status is required by the start of the appointment.

Teaching load is three courses per semester. Teaching responsibilities include two sections of "Environmental Politics, Policy, and Justice"; two sections of "Environmental Health and Climate Change"; and two sections of a course in the candidate's area of expertise that complements our current departmental offerings in Environmental Studies & Sciences and Geography.

Evidence of teaching experience and excellence is required. The successful candidate will have a track record of active support for inclusive, innovative pedagogy.

Applicants should submit a complete dossier including a letter of application; C.V.; a statement of teaching philosophy, a syllabus for an upper-level undergraduate seminar in the candidate's area of expertise; and a complete set of official teaching evaluations for up to three courses. Your application should establish your interest in working at a primarily undergraduate liberal arts institution. Include how your experiences, knowledge, skills, and/or past accomplishments will contribute to equitable and inclusive teaching, broadly defined as including classroom instruction, advising, mentoring, and other educational experiences. Candidates invited for a second-round interview will be asked to provide three letters of recommendation.

The committee will begin reviewing applications on March 24, 2025, and continue until the position is filled.
