QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department of History at the University of Delaware seeks an exceptional candidate for the position of Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Medieval European History. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in history, medieval studies, or an allied field with an ability to situate medieval Europe in its broader geographical contexts. Specialty and research methodology are open.
Applications are especially encouraged from candidates who have a strong commitment to teaching and interdisciplinary research, including research related to the department’s broader mission of connecting continents, exploring diasporas, understanding material culture, and studying intercultural exchange. We seek creative individuals who are eager to work in a collaborative environment, have demonstrated research excellence, and are high-quality teachers.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in hand by September 1, 2025, a record of excellence in teaching (or demonstrated promise); and an existing or emerging record of strong scholarship. The ideal candidate will also be prepared to contribute to the Department’s efforts to promote itself to potential students. Academic responsibilities will include teaching courses in medieval history (including the ability to offer instruction at all levels and to develop innovative, interdisciplinary, and topical courses). Dynamic teaching skills are essential. Service to the department is expected, including advising majors and minors. An interest in developing and directing study abroad programs is also desirable. The anticipated teaching load is four courses per year.

The Department offers B.A., B.A. Honors, Master’s, and Ph.D. degrees in History, an undergraduate degree in History and Social Studies Education, and a minor in Museum Studies.
The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware offers exceptional educational experiences including integrated instruction, research and public engagement.
