Position Details

Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job

Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine seeks an experienced faculty member for its new Master’s in Applied Biomedical Science Program, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI). This innovative program, embedded within the medical school, prepares students with the technical, ethical, and regulatory expertise needed to advance AI integration in biomedical sciences research. The faculty member will support program administration and growth, ensuring students receive a rigorous, cutting-edge education for impactful careers in biomedical sciences. Additionally, they will collaborate with faculty, researchers, and industry partners to further the school’s mission at the intersection of AI and biomedical sciences.

Collaborate with the Director of the Master’s of Applied Biomedical Sciences program to develop and execute its vision, ensuring alignment with medical school and university goals. Collaborate with the Curriculum Team to design learning outcomes that integrate foundational biomedical sciences with the evolving role of AI in biomedical research. Ensure high-quality instruction and mentorship, fostering an engaging learning environment to maintain strong student satisfaction.
Support accreditation processes and ensure compliance with regulatory and institutional standards. Build partnerships with healthcare institutions, pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, and industry experts to provide students with real-world experiences, internships, and exposure to cutting-edge developments in the field. Promote interdisciplinary collaboration among AI specialists, biomedical scientists, and medical professionals to advance AI-driven innovations in biomedical research and healthcare. Facilitate lectures, workshops, and networking events to introduce students to fundamental biomedical sciences concepts while bridging them with cutting-edge AI developments in the field. Support AI-related research initiatives, securing funding through grants and industry partnerships. Provide academic advising and mentorship to support students’ career development and success. Performs other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements for the Position

A Ph.D., DO, MD, or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field (e.g., Biomedical Sciences, Computer Science, Data Science, or related disciplines).

Experience Required for the Position

Preferred Qualifications
Extensive experience in biomedical sciences research involving big data analysis and AI in areas including but not limited to biomarker discovery, omics, drug discovery, precision medicine, therapeutics and treatment optimization. Expertise in biomedical sciences with a strong understanding of the ethical, regulatory, and clinical considerations involved in AI applications. Experience in medical or healthcare-focused academic programs. Proven success in grant writing and securing external funding. Active engagement in biomedical research with use of AI based applications. Expertise in developing and delivering online or hybrid learning environments. Knowledge of regulatory and policy frameworks related to AI in biomedical research.

Other Requirements for the Position

Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented culture for students and faculty.
Represent the program at conferences and advocate for integrating AI into biomedical curricula and policy discussions.
