Job Description
The Montgomery College, Germantown, Rockville, and Takoma Park/Silver Spring campuses are accepting applications for possible part-time faculty positions in Accounting. We seek an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits high professionalism, a solid commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate engagingly in the classroom and a virtual environment.

- The hiring decision for part-time faculty involves an academic judgment and shall be determined at Management’s sole discretion.
- During the academic year, part-time faculty at Montgomery College may teach no more than 11.5 ESH (equivalent semester hour) per semester and no more than 23 ESH per academic year.
- During summer, part-time faculty at Montgomery College may teach no more than 10 ESH (equivalent semester hours) for both sessions combined.
Faculty members will teach Accounting, mentor and advise students, and participate in department and college activities. They will also engage in ongoing professional development (e.g., training, seminars, and conferences) to stay current with cutting-edge pedagogies and methodologies. Adjunct instructors may be asked to cover and/or substitute for part-time and/or temporary openings in the department. Assignments can vary in duration and are not guaranteed. Courses may be offered at any of our campuses, including off-site locations, as needed.
Duties for Accounting adjuncts include:
- Designing and coordinating course content with the Accounting curriculum as determined by the accounting faculty team.
- Providing effective classroom instruction through culturally relevant pedagogies and educational resources appropriate for the subject matter.
- Preparing, administering, and grading all class assignments and examinations.
- Maintaining accurate and timely student records as required.
- Providing timely and useful feedback to students to help them improve their work.
- Maintaining regular office hours.
- Assisting and advising students on their degree plans.
- Assessing student learning by administering discipline-specific assessments created by the accounting faculty team.
- Participating in special paid program activities, including curriculum and program planning, development, evaluation, and decision-making, as well as developing new teaching-learning methods and materials.
- Participation in departmental and college professional training activities.
- Maintaining currency and depth of knowledge in assigned areas of responsibility.
- Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
- Communicating with excellent written and oral skills in English.
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Business or a related field or the equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
- A Certified Public Accountant ( CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) licensure required.
- Willingness to teach classes on any of our three Montgomery College campuses or off-campus locations (including teaching Early College and Middle College students), requiring background checks and fingerprinting.
- Available to teach during regular working hours.
- Current skills with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.

- Access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus)*. Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools. *Please notify the department chair during the interview if you cannot access a personal computer. Subject to available funds, the college may be able to provide temporary access to resources.
- Eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.
- Doctorate in Accounting or Business is preferred.
- Experience in U.S. Personal and Corporate Taxation and/or Auditing is desirable.
- Five or more years of full-time accounting work experience.
- Familiarization with accounting, tax, audit, and AI software.
- Three or more years of teaching experience.
- Distance Learning and face-to-face teaching experience.
- Familiarity with teaching technologies (learning platforms, homework managers, etc.)
