Position Summary
Job Description:
Summer Program Counselor Supervisor position available at York Country Day School June 2, 2025- August 8, 2025. It will be a flexible work schedule of no more than 29 hours per week between the hours of 7:00am and 5:30pm Monday through Friday, with an hourly starting rate of $18.
Responsibilities include assisting the Summer Program Director with summer programming and instruction for students in preschool through grade 6. The applicant should have a passion for STEAM lesson planning.
Patience, reliability, flexibility, enthusiasm and experience working with elementary-age children are a must. High School diploma, minimum age of 18, and experience working with elementary-age children is required.

The Summer Program Supervisor contributes to:
- The well-being of our summer programs by providing safe,
supportive, educational experiences for all participants to enjoy
by developing engaging STEM activities.
- Help lead counselors education for children in Preschool
through grade 6.
- Is the primary staff member in charge of logistics, safety,
materials and space for the summer program.
- Manage and supervise program staff, including counselors and
program leaders.
- Ensure the safety of campers at all times, and respond to
medical concerns.
- Communicate with parents and guardians about campers' day, and
respond to their questions and concerns.
- Maintain attendance records, incident reports, and program
records.
- Assist with training for camp leaders, and ensure accreditation
qualifications are met.
The Summer Program Supervisor will manage a safe and fun environment for students and staff. Overseeing summer program counselors within their everyday schedule and responsibilities. The Summer Program Supervisor will communicate needs and issues with the Director of Summer Programs, as well as communicate with parents as needed. The Summer Program Supervisor should be available June 2- August 8, 2025.
Essential Functions
- Communicate with the Director, fellow supervisors, counselors,
and families
- Directs daily activity schedule at assigned summer
programs
- Ensure the safety and well being of participants by providing
high quality risk management at all times
- Have the ability to plan weekly STEAM, Math, Reading, and
Writing curriculum and daily activities
- Communicate with parents when necessary
- Overseeing daily activities
- Support lead counselors in classroom roles
- Communicates summer program needs and supplies
- Inspects program equipment and facilities for safety hazards
and recommends corrective action
- Mediates conflict and behavior issues in a calm, firm and
respectful manner
- Provides a positive atmosphere and instigates fun for
participants
- Be present for 10 weeks of summer programs, Week of June - Week
of August 4
- Assist YCDS Summer Program Counselors and Instructors
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have a high school diploma or GED Equivalent
- 4 year college degree from an accredited college or university preferred
- 3 or more years experience working with children
- 2 or more years experience in summer programs or day-programs
- 2 or more years experience supervising a team of 5 or more team members
- Classroom or classroom-equivalent experience with elementary aged children
- Interest and experience in STEM educational programs or activities
- Experience in classroom management
- Demonstrated capability in planning, organizing and executing activities
- Strong communication skills
- Must have experience as a leader or supervisor of others
- Ability to organize, create and lead a variety of recreational activities
- Knowledge of leadership techniques for effectively working with staff, students, and parents
- Sound decision maker in regard to managing risk in the field, including seeking shelter and safety during extreme and predictable weather
- Ability to focus on a single task, transition quickly, and multitask as needed
- Lifeguard certification is a plus
