Position Title: Library Services Assistant Department: JM - Library Services - A Department Position Type: Staff Job Family: Part-Time Staff Under 20 Hours Job Summary: The College of Lake County is looking for a Library Services Assistant to join the team at the Southlake Campus. Under the administrative supervision of the Manager of Library Services, and the functional supervision of the Library Services Coordinator, this position provides services to library patrons by staffing the circulation desk, answering questions and providing direction, handling library material transactions, and assisting with collection maintenance tasks. Posting Date: 02/20/2025 Expected Start Date: 03/17/2025 Compensation Grade: Part-Time Staff Under 20 Hours Full-Time/Part-Time: Part time Location: Southlake Campus Total Hours Per Week: 15 Job Description: Student/Customer Service - 80%
1. Serve students, staff, faculty, and the public with checking out, checking in, renewing library materials, and assist with account inquiries and issues.
2. Answer questions and refer to appropriate staff and departments throughout the college in a face-to-face setting, by phone, and email.3. Assist in reconciling accounts with money owed in a face-to-face setting, by phone, and email.
4. Fulfill patron holds by pulling indicated items, communicating with staff at other campus locations, routing materials to the appropriate campus for pick up, and clearing hold shelves of outstanding items as needed.
5. Provide staffing coverage at other campuses to ensure continuity of operation and services.
Data Entry/Records Coordination - 10%
1. Place and/or remove service indicators on student records as necessary to restrict or allow services.
2. Issue new and replacement library cards and/or student IDs.
3. At direction of the Manager of Library Services, maintain a portion of the equipment or reserve collection including, but not limited to, creating cataloging records, tracking usage, predicting need, and communicating pertinent information to management, students, staff, and faculty.
Other Duties - 10%
1. Basic troubleshooting of library equipment and referral to appropriate individuals or departments for repair or replacement.
2. Shelf reading as assigned to ensure that library materials are in the correct order using Library of Congress shelving rules.
3. Keep library shelves and materials clean and orderly, regularly re-shelve and shift materials as needed for accessibility, and perform inventory functions as directed.
4. Follow opening and/or closing procedures as outlined in the circulation manual.
5. Performs additional responsibilities, tasks, and duties as determined by the department supervisor.
Required Qualification(s)
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows operating system.
- Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Desired Qualification(s)
- Experience working in a library, preferably in public services.
- Experience with an Integrated Library System, preferably Alma.
- LTA Certificate or coursework toward certification.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
Pay Rate: $15.02/hr (This is FIRM)
Schedule
- Monday - Thursday, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Other times as needed.
Part-time flex employees are not eligible to participate in certain benefit offerings at the College, including tuition reimbursement, tuition waiver, or health insurance. Part-time flex employees will be eligible for paid time off dependent on scheduled hours.
